Winston Churchill attends the most impressive reception

Thank you for your letter.
Within the last weeks I had a sort of bad conscience, always thinking that I should write to you, but I had such a hectic time this summer that correspondence was pushed
into the background.
I lost about half of my vacations because of Eranos, a Congress/ and Mr. Churchill’s visit to Switzerland.
The latter event was interesting in so far as I had a chance to meet Mr. Churchill at close quarters and also his most charming daughter Mary.
The reception Churchill had in Zurich was something you really have missed. Churchill told me afterwards that it was the best and most impressive reception he ever had in his life.

Permit me to thank you and the University once again for the invitation to Winston Church!ll’s reception and quite particularly for the honour of seating me next to the illustrious guest.
Conversation with him, however, made no small demands on one’s tact and ingenuity, as I was constantly in doubt as to how much question and answer I might expect from that very tired man.
Nevertheless I thank you for one of the most interesting experiences of my life.

Note: 1 2 3 Aug.- 16 Sept., Church!ll spent a holiday in Switzerland, and afterwards visited Bern and Zurich.
In Bern the Swiss Government arranged a reception, and in Zurich the University-where Church!ll gave a famous address-arranged a dinner.
On both occasions Jung was present, and in Zurich was seated next to Church!ll, apparently at the behest of Church!ll whose daughter Mary was interested in Jung’s work.
