C.G. Jung Letters, Vol. 1: 1906-1950
To Emma von Pelet
Dear Frau von Pelet, Bollingen until 15 January 1944
…John Pordage/English mystic and alchemist of the 17th century, says that “our inner earth” and “our inner heaven” are “spotted” with the peccatum originale of Luciferian pride.
Psychologically this means collective guilt, for we all have within us that fiery devil who has seized power in Germany thanks to the boundless unconsciousness and arrogance of the individual.
It is a madman’s fate that will irresistibly run its course and would do so also in us if we were to break the authority of the law within us and our contract with ourselves.
But this does not prevent us from being continually licked round by the flames of hell.
All of us have to atone, inwardly and outwardly, for this guilt of unconsciousness.
With best regards,
Yours sincerely,
