Dear Colleague, 6 August 1938

It is remarkable how people can act so dumb when dealing with inner figures.

Forgive me, but that’s what you are doing.

When you are treating a woman with an animus that proclaims the opinions of her father or husband, you are I hope capable of distinguishing between what the woman herself is saying and what must be ascribed to the animus.

Technically you have to proceed in exactly the same way with your anima as in an actual case.

Your difficulty only goes to show that the inner reality is not yet sufficiently real for you, and that is why you are in continual danger of possession which inevitably leads to an inflation.

With kind regards,

Yours sincerely,
